Invoicing for Freelancers: Getting Paid on Time
Late payment is a common frustration. A few habits reduce the risk.
Make invoices clear
Include your details, the client's details, an invoice number, a description of the work, the amount, the due date and how to pay. Send it as soon as the work is delivered.
Set terms early
State payment terms in the contract. Many freelancers ask for a deposit and split the balance into milestones for larger projects.
Follow up politely
Send a friendly reminder a few days before the due date and another when it passes. Keep records of all messages. If a client remains unresponsive, seek advice on the options available in your region.
